I (Mark) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in the fall of 2020, during my freshman year of college. I was lacking energy, shedding weight, and experiencing all of the standard symptoms but I was in denial that it could have been diabetes. Despite ramping up my calorie intake by a significant factor, I weighed under 140 lbs at my diagnosis appointment. Brett and I both got our Bachelor's in Computer Science at Michigan Tech. Getting closer to graduation, I was on the fence between pursuing this app full-time or taking the bi-weekly paycheck and working on the app in the evening. I chose to work the 9-5 with Brett so I could pad the Wells Fargo a bit.
I started chipping away at this app and I would occasionally bounce questions off of Brett. He thought I was just creating a "resume-builder" project as our current position had a grim outlook in terms of future funding. Slowly, his view of the app flipped and he expressed more interest. He made the comment "this app is rolling, hey?". I offered to work together as partners and he jumped on the offer. Now, Brett and I are working full-time to try pull this idea up from the bootstraps. This is by far the most fun I have ever had while working. To think that I am building this app to make a living feels surreal. 5pm feels like 12pm, as there are simply not enough hours in a day.
